MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Redshirt freshman right-hander
Jordan Moore pitched a career-high 7.0 innings; allowing one run and
Matt Discon drove in a career-high four RBIs to lead the No. 15 ranked Statesmen (30-10-1) of Delta State University to a 9-3 victory over the Falcons (12-31) of the University of Montevallo at Kermit Johnson Field. With the win, the Statesmen extended the lead in the season series 3-0.
Chris Escobar's single to left in the second and back-to-back doubles by
Matt Discon and
Michael Niemann put the Statesmen up 4-0 early in the contest.
Austin Dubberly's two-out, RBI double to right cut the DSU lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
DSU took advantage of four walks and a hit-by-pitch in the top of the seventh to score four runs and take a commanding 8-1 lead.
Matt Discon provided the big hit in the inning, a two-RBI single to right scoring
Will McGinnis and Escobar. Escobar and
Chase Blanchard collected RBIs as well by drawing bases loaded walks.
Montevallo used three pitchers in the inning, including two position players that had not pitched all year.
Delta State tacked on an insurance run in the top of the eighth on Blanchard's RBI-single, his second RBI of the evening, to right.

Nathan Hardy. The Madison native gave up two runs on two hits to cut the DSU lead to six runs, 9-3.

James Denton worked the ninth to seal the win for the Statesmen.
Montevallo's McCleod (0-2) took the loss after working 3.0 innings and surrendering four runs on seven hits.
Discon drove in four runs and collected two hits and Niemann went 3-for-6 to lead the Statesmen at the plate. Blanchard finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and
Patrick Taylor reached base safely in all six at-bats, including three hit-by-pitches.
The Statesmen conclude the two game series in Montevallo, Ala., on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Kermit Johnson Field. The game will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting 15 minutes prior to first pitch with the “SouthGroup Insurance Dugout Report.”
