Lady Statesmen blast Alcorn State

Faith Wright and the Lady Statesmen picked up their second win in three games on Sunday
CLEVELAND-Four different players scored their first goals of the season, as the Delta State University Lady Statesmen soccer team blew past Alcorn State 4-1 Sunday at Delta Field.

Jordan Evans opened the scoring, with her first goal of her career in the 30th minute, and Sandra Nirva scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 42nd minute.

Jessie Reeder and Payten Pearson both added their first career goals in the second half to complete the scoring. Reeder pushed a rebound past ASU keeper Ashley Murray, while Pearson scored on a powerful long range strike that found the top of the net.

The Lady Statesmen (2-3) outshot ASU (0-4) 14-10, with seven of those coming from the foot of Pearson.

Faith Wright picked up her second win of the season in between the pipes for DSU.

The Lady Statesmen return to action on Wednesday Sept. 15, as they take on Spring Hill. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
