CLEVELAND-For the third time this season, the Delta State University soccer team allowed a goal in the final two minutes. Sarah Uptmor scored the second of her two goals in the 89th minute, as Spring Hill College defeated the Lady Statesmen 2-1.
Uptmor started the scoring for SHC (3-3) in the fourth minute with a cross from Katie Pendergast to give the Lady Badgers the lead.
In the 76th minute, freshman
Payten Pearson took a long ball from
Heather Martinez, and blasted it past Spring Hill goalkeeper Emma Pitchford to tie the game at one.
The second goal of the season for Pearson proved to be the only shot on goal of the game for the Lady Statesmen (2-4).
The game winning goal by Uptmor was a blast off the crossbar that took a perfect bounce back over the head of goalkeeper
Faith Wright.
Delta State was outshot 20-5 in the loss.
The Lady Statesmen will attempt to bounce back on Saturday, Sept. 18, as they will play host to Freed Hardeman University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
