Lady Statesmen drop third straight

CLEVELAND-The Delta State University Lady Statesmen soccer team dropped its third straight match Wednesday at Delta Field.

The Lady Statesmen (3-7, 0-3) allowed a goal in each half in a 2-0 loss to visiting Christian Brothers University.

CBU (5-2-1, 1-0) opened the scoring in the 34th minute when a header by Roma Rozanska appeared to be tipped away by DSU keeper Megan Galloway, but the ball barely found its way over the line.

The Lady Statesmen recorded five shots on goal in the first half, but Lady Bucs keeper Libby Hake was up to the taksk, making every save.

DSU only managed two shots on goal in the second half, which included a long-range drive from forward Payten Pearson, but another quality effort by Hake kept the Lady Statesmen scoreless in Gulf South Conference play.

Allison Tutt finished up the scoring for CBU in the 73rd minute for CBU, with a finish from inside the box.

Each team recorded seven shots on goal, but CBU outshot the Lady Statesmen 13-8.

DSU will look for their first GSC win on Friday, Oct. 1, as they travel to Carrollton, Ga., to take on the University of West Georgia.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
