Lady Statesmen end slide with victory in OT

Box Score MARION, Ala.-- The Lady Statesmen soccer team entered Monday in need of a remedy to end their five game losing streak. They found that remedy, as they defeated Judson College 1-0 in overtime.

Ninety minutes was not enough to decide the match, as niether team was able to net a goal in regulation. However, the Lady Statesmen were able to find the back of the net in overtime. Sophomore forward Payten Pearson scored the deciding goal, which gave the Lady Statesmen the victory. Freshmen goalkeeper Kelsey Elling picked up the clean sheet for the Lady Statesmen.

The Lady Statesmen (3-8, 0-4 GSC), now turn their attenion back to Gulf South Conference play, as they head home for a big weekend slate of matches. First off the Lady Statesmen will celebrate Senior Day on Friday as they take on Alabama-Huntsville at Delta Field. Senior defender Sam Bossert will be honored before the match. Kick off is scheduled for 12 p.m. They will follow that with a home match this Sunday against West Florida. That match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
