Mairinger, Torres, Meerholz Lead Delta State Swimming In OBU Dual Meet

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.
– The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Swimming and Diving teams competed in a dual meet with Ouachita Baptist Saturday and Wolfgang Mairinger, Dani Meerholz and Maria Torres picked up multiple event wins for Delta State.
 
The trio of Delta State swimmers each picked up a pair of wins with Mairinger and Torres both claiming the distance swims in the meet.
 
Torres also won in the 1000-free and 500-free events. She won the 1000-free by a margin of 20.19 seconds with a time of 10:37.11. Torres' victory in the 500-free came in a time of 5:10.87.
 
Mairinger won the 1000-free and 500-free events with times of 9:49.65 and 4:41.22, respectively. His margin of victory in the 1000-free was 29.13 seconds over fellow Statesmen Chris Ashton. Statesmen Gabriel Cruz came in third in the 1000-free to give Delta State a sweep in the event.
 
Meerholz was the other double event winner in the meet for Delta State, taking first place finishes in the 100-free and 200-free events. Meerholz won the 100-free by .67 seconds with a time of 54.87.
 
In the 200-free, Meerholz made a last-lap pass to edge out a win by .23 seconds with a time of 1:55.74.
 
Ben Vaughan won the 200-free event on the men's side, setting a quick pace of 1:46.49, a 2.21 second margin of victory. Vaughan also finished second to Mairinger in the 500-free with a time of 4:43.20, 1.98 seconds off the win, but 8.71 seconds ahead of third.
 
Delta State also paced the 100-butterfly event, as Stephanie Gonzalez and Vlad Zinca picked up the wins. Gonzalez won in a time of 1:01.41, nearly one second ahead of second place.
 
Zinca edged out a wire-to-wire win on the men's side with a margin of victory of .16 seconds in a time of 51.01.
 
Yvan Nys picked up a meet win in the 100-backstroke, winning in a time of 53.34.
 
The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen swim teams will return to the action in two weeks, when Delta State travels to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock invitational from December 1-3.
