After holding the Statesmen at-bay in the bottom of the fourth, ATU plated three runs to take a brief 11-10 lead on DSU. Madison Beard's two-RBI single to right was the key to the Wonder Boys inning.
The Statesmen finally shook off the cobwebs and got back on track in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles from Kakwitch and Robulak. The scoring strikes put the green-and-white back up 12-11.
DSU extended the lead to four runs, 15-11, in the bottom of the sixth. Craig Herrmann and
Chris Escobar jump-started the inning with back-to-back singles. Niemann plated the first run of the frame on a sac-fly RBI to right scoring Herrmann from third. Bozeman finished off the cycle in the inning by drilling a two-run, no-doubter over the left field wall.
In the top of the eighth, Arkansas Tech got a two-out double from Josh Riley to continue putting the pressure on the Statesmen, but left-handed reliever
David Mooney struck out Nate Wilder to end the inning and preserve the four run lead.
