Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn.—The Lady Statesmen soccer team kept their positive momentum going, as they took on Freed-Hardeman Monday evening. The Lady Statesmen used a goal early in the second half to defeat the Lady Lions 2-1 for the team's second straight victory. It is the first time since the 2008 season that the women's soccer team has won consecutive matches.
The Lady Statesmen (2-3) struck first in the match when sophomore defender 
Jessie Reeder put the ball in the back of the net in the 44th minute. 
The Lady Lions (1-1) did not go away as they tied the game at one in the 48th minute. Whitney Newby was able to get the ball past freshman keeper 
Kelsey Elling.
With the match tied early on in the second half, the Lady Statesmen retook the lead for good. Freshman midfielder 
Merissa Hums scored her second goal of the season in the 51st minute. Hums was assisted by Reeder on the goal. The Lady Statesmen kept Freed-Hardeman off the board for the remainder of the match to pick up the 2-1 win.
The Lady Statesmen out shot the Lady Lions in the match 13-11. Elling made nine saves for Delta State, while Abbey Adkins made four for Freed-Hardeman. Seven of the Lady Statesmen's shots were on goal, while 10 were on point for the Lady Lions.
The Lady Statesmen now turn their attention to a Thursday match against Alcorn State. The match gets underway at 4 p.m. in Lorman, Miss.
