Box Score ALCORN STATE, Miss.-- The Lady Statesmen soccer team was looking for their third straight win Thursday afternoon. Unfortunately Alcorn State had other plans as the Lady Braves came away with a 2-0 victory.
The Lady Braves (1-4) dominated the first half of action, out shooting the Lady Statesmen 17-0 in the opening period.
Even with the shot discrepancy the match remained a scoreless tie until late in the second half. The Lady Braves broke the tie with a goal in the 85th minute. Jessica Selgado put the ball past freshman keeper
Kelsey Elling to give Alcorn State the lead. The Lady Braves struck again in the 89th minute. Emily Sauer was assisted by Katrina Moore, as the second goal put the game away for Alcorn State.
The Lady Statesmen (2-4) never got their offense going managing just two shots on goal for the contest. Both teams were called for nine fouls, and the off sides flag went up 10 times for both squads as well.

Payten Pearson picked up a yellow card in the 70th minute for the Lady Statesmen. Junior defender
Angela Palazzolo picked up her yellow card for Delta State in the 74th minute. Morgan Genereaux was booked with a yellow card in the 82nd minute for Alcorn State.
The Lady Statesmen now get a break after a busy stretch of games. Their next match up is their Gulf South Conference Opener against West Georgia. The match is scheduled for next Friday at 7 p.m. in Carrollton, Ga.
