Box Score CLEVELAND—The Lady Statesmen soccer team returned to Delta Field for their opening home game of the regular season. Unfortunately the Lady Statesmen could not figure out Union University, as the Lady Bulldogs came away with a 4-1 victory.
The game was scoreless until the 30th minute of the first half when the Lady Bulldogs broke the tie. Whitney Kramer got an assist from Emily Crane, and Kramer put the ball into the back of the net.
Union took the advantage into halftime, and they extended their lead in the second half. In the 54th minute, Christina Reardon scored off a cross from Ashlie Watson, and the Lady Bulldogs were up 2-0.
The Lady Statesmen came right back less than a minute later, and got back into the match. Sophomore
Payten Pearson put the ball off the cross bar, and sophomore
Meredith Wilkes scored off the rebound.
The match remained a one-goal game for the next 20 minutes until Union broke through again. Eboni Murphy scored off an assist from Kramer. Then in the 88th minute the Lady Bulldogs put the game away with a goal from Watson who was assisted by Crane.
The Lady Statesmen were out shot by Union 18-6. Union committed five fouls to the Lady Statesmen's four, and there were no bookings handed out in the contest.
The Lady Statesmen now hit the road for a brutal month long stretch. They start by heading to Mobile, Ala. where they take on Spring Hill College. The match Friday gets underway at 2 p.m.
