Box Score Mobile, Ala.-- The Lady Statesmen soccer team picked up their first win of the season Friday, as they beat Spring Hill College 1-0. The Lady Statesmen snapped their three game losing streak, and stopped the Lady Badgers (3-2) three game winning streak in the process.
The game went through the first half without a goal from either team. That would change in the second half, as the Lady Statesmen struck with their only shot on goal of the contest. Sophomore defender
Jessie Reeder sent the ball into the box, and freshman midfielder
Merissa Hums was there to put the ball past the diving goalkeeper.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kelsey Elling earned her first collegiate victory, and her first clean sheet for the Lady Statesmen. Elling made six saves for the game, as Spring Hill out shot the Lady Statesmen 17-1.
The Lady Statesmen (1-3) will now prepare for their upcoming match against Freed Hardeman. That game is set for Monday Sept. 12 in Henderson, Tenn. Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
