Lady Statesmen Soccer Game Notes - Week 6 (PDF)
CLEVELAND - The Lady Statesmen soccer team gets back into conference action this weekend with a pair of games on the road against Union and Alabama-Huntsville. Delta State lost to both teams in non-conference matches earlier in the season. The Lady Statesmen fell to UAH 3-1 and Union 2-0, both games at Delta Field.
Against Union
The Lady Statesmen are 1-4-0 all time against the Lady Bulldogs of Union University. Delta State has dropped the last three games against the Lady Bulldogs.
Delta State has played two matches at Union, losing the last time the two teams met at Union University Soccer Field by a 1-0 score. The Lady Statesmen's lone win against the Lady Bulldogs came at Union in 2008, winning 1-0 in overtime.
Against Alabama-Huntsville
Delta State is 1-8-0 all time against the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville. The Lady Statesmen have lost the last five matches to the Chargers, with all but this year's loss coming by one goal.
The Lady Statesmen are 1-3 when playing Alabama-Huntsville at Charger Field, with the win coming in 2008. The last time Delta State played at Alabama-Huntsville (2011), the Lady Statesmen fell to the Chargers in overtime, 2-1.
Pearson moving up career charts
This season
Payten Pearson has moved up the career charts as a Lady Statesman, cracking the top five in six different offensive categories, including overtaking a record for assists. With assists against West Florida and North Alabama, Pearson moved into the career lead for assists (7) for Delta State. The junior also sits in the top five of points (23), goals (8), game-winning goals (2), shots (90), and shots on goal (37).
Elling tops the charts, taking DSU Records
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kelsey Elling has overtaken several Lady Statesmen records in goal for the green-and-white this season. Elling overtook the career saves record as a Lady Statesman in last week's game at Christian Brothers.
Elling currently sits at 167 saves for her career in 22 starts and 25 games played, both of which are also Lady Statesmen records achieved this season. Elling now also holds the record for minutes played in goal at 2177.
Against the states
The Lady Statesmen will face a team from Tennessee for the third time in 2012. Delta State is 0-2-0 against the state after falling 2-0 to Union University in late September and 1-0 to Christian Brothers last week. Overall, the Lady Statesmen are 11-20-0 against the “Volunteer State.” This will be the third of four matches against the state of Tennessee this season.
The Lady Statesmen will face a team from Alabama for the fourth time in 2012. Delta State is 0-3-0 against the state this season. Overall, the Lady Statesmen are 5-28-1 against the “Yellowhammer State.” This will be the fourth of five matches against the state of Alabama this season.
