LADY STATESMEN SOCCER GAME NOTES-WEEK 7 (PDF)
CLEVELAND - The Lady Statesmen soccer team will celebrate “Senior Day” this weekend when they host Christian Brothers in a conference match on Sunday, Delta State's only match this week.
The Lady Statesmen come off of a 1-1 road trip that included a 3-2 victory over Union and a 2-1 defeat in overtime at Alabama-Huntsville.
Against Christian Brothers
The Lady Statesmen are 2-7-0 all time against the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers University. Delta State has dropped the last four matches against the Lady Bucs, including a 1-0 defeat earlier this season in Memphis, Tenn.
Christian Brothers capitalized on one of the few mistakes the Lady Statesmen made in the match, capitalizing on a turnover in the Delta State defensive zone.
Alex Bickenbach stole the ball and sent it into the middle for Kristen Guidry, who put it in the net in the 73rd minute.
Pearson continuing to climb
This season
Payten Pearson has moved up the career charts as a Lady Statesman, cracking the top five in six different offensive categories, including overtaking a record for assists. With assists against West Florida and North Alabama, Pearson moved into the career lead for assists (7) for Delta State.
The junior scored two goals over the weekend, one each against Union and Alabama-Huntsville. The pair of goals moves Pearson into second on the all-time list in points (27) and a tie for third in goals (10). Pearson also sits in third on the all-time list in both shots (90) and shots on goal (37), and a tie for fourth in game-winning goals (2).
