Lady Statesmen fall on late goal by CBU

Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Lady Statesmen fell to Christian Brothers Friday night after the Lady Bucs scored a late goal to defeat the Lady Statesmen 1-0.

Christian Brothers (5-6) capitalized on one of the few mistakes the Lady Statesmen  (2-8-1) made in the match, capitalizing on a turnover in the Delta State defensive zone.

Alex Bickenbach stole the ball and sent it into the middle for Kristen Guidry, who put it past Lady Statesmen goalkeeper Kelsey Elling in the 73rd minute.

The Lady Statesmen responded quickly and Michelle Laurenzi put a shot on target a minute later, but Libby Hake stopped the best chance for the Delta State on the evening.

Elling made four saves on the night in her first start since me sidelined for four games with an illness.

Delta State had several chances in the match, but failed to get shots on target. The Lady Statesmen had two corner kicks in the last few minutes, but were unable to generate a scoring chance with the opportunities.

The Lady Statesmen will look to rebound Tuesday when they host the Lady Tigers of Ouachita Baptist at Delta Field.
