Lady Statesmen suffer 2-0 loss to OBU

Box Score CLEVELAND - The Lady Statesmen soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat Tuesday afternoon to Ouachita Baptist at home at Delta Field.

Delta State (2-9-1) struggled to get momentum offensively and gave up a pair of goals to the Lady Tigers (7-4-0).

Ouachita Baptist took the lead in the first half on a misplayed freekick by Lady Statesmen goalkeeper Megan Galloway. As the freekick came in from Mary Whisenhunt, Galloway misplayed the bounce and Morgan Allen headed it home.

In the second half, the Tigers added an insurance marker when Lauren Hatch scored on a cross, beating Kelsey Elling to put Ouachita up by the the eventual final 2-0.

The Lady Statesmen had a couple chances in the match but failed to capitalize. Charlotte Benson hit the crossbar when the game was still tied in the first half. Lauren May also had a header opportunity in close, but put it wide.

Jessie Reeder also had a chance for the Lady Statesmen to tie it up, but was unable to get a shot off on a cross from Jackie Kelly at close range.

The Lady Statesmen finished with 17 shots and nine corner kicks to the Lady Tigers 13 shots and three corner kicks.

The Lady Statesmen will head back to the road next, playing at Union University in a conference match on Friday. The Lady Statesmen fell to Union 2-0 earlier this season in a non-conference match.
