Statesmen shut down by Mississippi Valley

Box Score Itta Bena, Miss. – The Delta State University baseball finished a home-and-home series Tuesday by traveling to face Mississippi Valley State. While the Statesmen won the first match-up of the season back in February, the Delta Devils were able to come away with a 2-0 victory Tuesday.

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the second inning. Trey Lacy was walked to lead off the inning. A sacrifice bunt advanced Lacy to second before a base hit by Joseph Germaine put runners on the corners. Lacy was then able to score when a balk was called on Statesmen pitcher Jordan Moore. The run gave the Devils the 1-0 lead.

The game was still a 1-0 affair until the bottom of the sixth inning. Edmund Cheatham sent a one out base hit into left center field. After advancing to second, Cheatham was brought home on a base hit by Seth Milliorn. The run put the Delta Devils (7-26) up 2-0.

The Statesmen (23-10) could not find their offense during the game, as they tallied just four base hits. The loss was also the first time the Statesmen have been shutout this season.
