The Ferriss Trophy is awarded each year to the top collegiate baseball player in the state of Mississippi. The Tino Martinez Award is given out to the top player in NCAA Div. II.
Mitchell has a near spotless 8-1 record on the season with a 3.05 ERA. One of those eight victories was the first perfect game in Statesmen history, a 4-0 victory over New Orleans back on April 14, 2012. He also pitched 21.1 consecutive scoreless innings this season.
