FLORENCE, Ala. – The Delta State University women's soccer team dropped a road game against the University of North Alabama on Wednesday night. The Lady Statesmen fell to the Lions 5-0 to drop to 2-5-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Lions improve to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.
Delta State entered this match in search of their second straight win and first win in Gulf South Conference play. North Alabama looked to add to their already impressive season resume.
The Green-and-White faced some adversity early on as North Alabama's Jennifer Osmond put the Lions in front less than six minutes into the game. Two more Lion goals were scored in the first half that were unanswered by the Lady Statesmen to give North Alabama the 3-0 advantage at half time.
The Lions continued their offensive attack into the second half as they tallied two more goals to give North Alabama a commanding 5-0 lead over Delta State with 33 minutes to play. The Lady Statesmen could not keep up with the offensive momentum from the Lions in this Gulf South Conference matchup as they fell to North Alabama by a final score of 5-0. North Alabama's Osmond was very dangerous in this match as she put up a hat trick for the Lions including a penalty kick goal following a Delta State foul in the box.
Delta State was only able to get off three shots and one shot on goal. Tabitha Hayden, Charlotte Benson, and Lauren May recorded one shot each for the Lady Statesmen with the lone shot on goal coming from Hayden.
Megan Galloway was in goal for Delta State and was in the net all 90 minutes of play. Galloway allowed five goals and recorded five saves.
Up next for Delta State women's soccer is a road game against Christian Brothers University. The Lady Statesmen will take on the Bucs in Memphis, Tenn. on Oct. 4. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. The men's soccer team is scheduled to play immediately following the women's match at 7:30 p.m.
