Lady Statesmen fall to Lee University from Delta Field, 5-1

Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Statesmen hosted the Lee University Lady Flames from Delta Field, with the visitors taking home the 5-1 victory.

Payten Pearson would start the scoring when she took the pass from Lauren May and put it behind Haley Gribler in the 30th minute, giving Delta State (3-9-1, 1-5-1 GSC) the early 1-0 lead.  The goal is the first of the season for Pearson, and also marks the first assist for May.

Lee would respond less than a minute later with Summer Lanter scoring.  Leah Fortune added another Lady Flames goal in the 34th minute, capping the first half scoring with the visitors heading into the intermission holding the 2-1 lead.

Lee would get three unanswered second half goals to pick up the road win, 5-1.  Lee won four consecutive NAIA national championships before losing last season, and now is moving into the NCAA Division II ranks in the Gulf South Conference.

Megan Galloway played the entire ninety minutes in goal for the Lady Statesmen, facing 30 shots, with 15 being on goal.  Galloway would stop a season-high 10 shots.

The Lady Statesmen attempted five shots, with the Pearson goal being the lone shot on goal for DSU.

The contest saw lots of tough play, represented by the 25 called fouls and the issuing of a trio of yellow cards.

The Lady Statesmen will play the next two games on the road, Oct. 25 at West Alabama and Oct. 27 at West Florida, before returning home to Delta Field for Senior Day on Nov. 1, when Christian Brothers visits for the 1:00 PM start time.
