Lady Statesmen Soccer Falls to Christian Brothers 2-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lady Statesmen soccer team of Delta State University traveled north to Memphis, Tenn., on Friday afternoon to take on Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers University. Delta State fell 2-1 to the Bucs to drop to 2-6-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference play, while Christian Brothers improves to 7-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.

Delta State's Rebecca Deegan put the Lady Statesmen on the board first with a header on a cross from Meredith Wilkes to give Delta State the early 1-0 lead just two minutes into the match. A Christian Brothers goal at the 21:15 mark evened the score at 1-1. The score remained at one all going into half time.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the first 35 minutes of the second half. With just ten minutes left in the game, Christian Brothers' Katelyn Graham put the Bucs in front of Delta State 2-1, which was enough for Christian Brothers to take the win.

The Lady Statesmen only managed to get three shots off against the Bucs, all of which were shots on goal. Deegan, Tabitha Hayden, and Kailey Bryan had the hot feet for Delta State. Christian Brothers outshot Delta State by a wide 18-3 margin.

Megan Galloway was in goal for the Lady Statesmen as she played all 90 minutes of the match and recorded four saves while only giving up two goals.

Delta State returns to action for a conference road series with the University of Alabama-Huntsville and Union University. The Lady Statesmen will travel to Huntsville, Ala., on Oct. 11 to hit the pitch against the Chargers. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
