Swimming wins at Ouachita Baptist completing weekend sweep

Meet Results - Statesmen / Lady Statesmen

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - In the second meet in as many days, Delta State was able to claim a pair of victories at Ouachita Baptist.  The Statesmen took the 160-70 victory, while the Lady Statesmen won 151-60.

The Statesmen got the meet off on the right foot, claiming the win in the 400-Medley Relay (3:29.57) with the team of Yvan Nys, Clayton Boyd, Vlad Zinca, and Fabrice Wendel.

In the 1,000-Freestyle, DSU was able to sweep the top two finished with Mike Nikolic (9:59.57) finished ahead of Rhett Guinot (10:06.20).

Bear Iles was victorious in the 50-Freestyle (21.50) and Tobias Tombers took the top spot in the 200-Individual Medley (1:58.11) and the 200-Breaststroke (2:11.55).  Zinca picked up an individual victory in the 200-Butterfly (1:56.15) while Wendel (100-Freestyle; 47.97) and Nys (200-Backstroke; 1:54.64) also finished first.

Bryce Anderson (4:51.75) along with Guinot and Nikolic swept the top-3 spots in the 500-Freestyle.

Delta State also swept the diving competition where Conner Bennett scored 293.2 which was good enough to qualify for the NCAA Championships.  Matthew Swaine bested his teammate on way to a new school record 302.2, giving Swaine both school records from 1-M.

The Lady Statesmen took their victory in the 400-Medley Relay (4:01.26) with the team of Kierstin Page, Kirsten Stroven, Danielle Dugas, and Chloe Bennett.

Kim Barna (10:42.73) won the 1,000-Freestyle, for her second top-2 finish in as many days in the race.

Melanie Tombers (1:55.35) and Dani Meerholz (1:57.88) were the top finishers in the 200-Freestyle, while Tombers added victories in the 200-Individual Medley (2:08.17) and 200-Breaststroke (2:24.26).

Dugas picked up the individual victory in the 200-Butterfly (2:12.71), while Page also picked up a win in the 200-Backstroke (2:07:10) to go with her runner-up finish in the 200-Individual Medley.

Maria Torres (5:12.02) and Dani Meerholz (5:13.00) finished 1-2 in the 500-Freestyle.  The duo joined with Elizabeth Frye and Evan Parker to finish with the top time in the 400-Freestyle Relay (3:41.34).

Delta State will be off until December when the Aquatics Center hosts the DSU Christmas Invitational December 14-17.
