Tyler Aldridge extended his hit sreak Tuesday night as the No. 2 Delta State Statesmen (17-3) picked up a 6-5 victory over Abilene Christian (11-9) .
Aldridge had a pair of hits and two RBIs in the game. Aldridge opened the game with an RBI single following
Jordan Chovanec's leadoff triple. The hit extended the senior's hitting streak to open the season to 20 games.
Aldridge added another RBI in the fifth inning when
Kasey Hinton scored on a hard hit ball back to the pitcher that resulted into a groundout to second. The play gave the Statesmen a 3-1 lead.
In the sixth inning,
Brent Langston scored from second on a single by
Jami Rachal to give the Statesmen a 4-1 lead.
Starter
Jordan Moore pitched five innings for the Statesmen, picking up the win and improving to 3-0 on the year. Moore gave up two runs on three hits, while recording six strikeouts.
The Statesmen scored two insurance runs in the eighth inning that proved to be the winning runs. First,
Sam Kidd scored on a balk on a pickoff attempt to first. Pinch hitter
Dex Herrington then hit an RBI single that scored pinch runner
Josh Crowdus from second base to go up 6-3.
Taylor Stark came in to relieve
Jared Bond in the eighth inning and picked up his third save of the season. Stark gave up an unearnerd run in the ninth but ended the game with a pair of strikeouts and a pop out.
The Statesmen and Wildcats will play a second game Wednesday afternoon at Crutcher Scott Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
