ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Lady Statesmen dropped their third straight match, on the road, to the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers, by a score of 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon. Delta State women's soccer falls to 0-3 on the season, while Ouachita Baptist improves to 3-0 overall.
Ouachita Baptist took an early lead in the seventh minute of play on a goal by Haley Hatcher. The Tigers' defense was solid in the first half as the Ouachita kept Delta State off the board. The score at half time stood at 1-0, in favor of the Tigers.
The second half opened with another goal from Ouachita in the 52nd minute, from Hatcher, to extend the Tigers' lead to 2-0. The Tigers found the back of the net once again in the 65th minute of play, from a goal by Tessa Woodcock, to take a commanding lead 3-0 over Delta State. The Ouachita defense continued into the second half as it held Delta State to just 10 shots.
Four Lady Statesmen recorded shots in Tuesday's game, Lauren May and Tais Cotta each had three shots, while Erin Tucker and Tabitha Hayden had two shots a piece. The score remained 3-0 through the end of regulation.
Freshman Kylie Jones was in goal for Delta State. She recorded one save on the afternoon while allowing all three goals. Jones falls to 0-2 on the season in the net. Ouachita's Sarah Broyles was in goal for the Tigers, recording four saves and the shutout.
Up next for Delta State is the conference season opener against the University of West Alabama. The Lady Statesmen will take on the Tigers at Delta Field on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. to kick off 2013 Gulf South Conference play.
