Seniors go out on top from pool, Fraschi sets new school record

CLEVELAND, Miss. –
The Delta State swimming seniors were able to claim victory in their final home meet from the DSU Aquatics Center.  The Statesmen defeated Henderson State, 154 – 76; while the Lady Statesmen defeated HSU, 169 – 45, and West Florida, 133 – 101, in a double dual meet.

The Statesmen took victory in ten of the thirteen events versus Henderson State.  In his first action of the season, Matteo Fraschi was able to pick up three wins.  Fraschi was part of the winning 400-Medley Relay (3:26.58) and also picked up a pair of individual victories in the 200-Individual Medley (1:52.93) and with a new school record in the 200-Breaststroke (2:04.61).

Bryce Anderson (9:44.60) continued his recent run in the distance races, he took first place in the 1,000-Freestyle.  Anderson also took runner-up honors (4:46.52) in the 500-Freestyle.

Bear Iles, one of the honored seniors in the pre-meet ceremony, won the 50-Freestyle (21.39).  Iles was also victorious in the 400-Meldey Relay and 400-Freestyle Relay.

Fabrice Wendel finished first in the 200-Freestyle (1:44.42) and Jared Meredith (47.85) took the 100-Freestyle event.  The 200-Butterfly was won by Vlad Zinca (1:54.65).

In diving action, Matthew Swaine won both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter competitions.

The Lady Statesmen were triumphant in double dual meet action.  DSU started the meet off with a win in the 400-Medley Relay
(3:57.12).

Maria Torres (10:45.21) and Kim Barna (10:48.30) finished in the top spots overall in the 1,000-Freestyle.  Torres finished runner-up (5:13.05) to Dani Meerholz (5:09.70) in the 500-Freestyle.

Melanie Tombers won the 200-Freestyle (1:54.96), 200-Individual Medley (2:07.46), and the 200-Breaststroke (2:23.87).

Anastasia Klyarovskaya prevailed in the 200-Butterfly (2:05.11) and the 200-Backstroke (2:01.34).

Delta State will travel Pensacola, Fla., at the beginning of February for action from West Florida.

The meet also represented the final home meet for a select group of seniors, the following group capped off their careers for the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen: Elizabeth Frye, Maria Torres, Kelcie Winterrowd, Jake Blegen, Clayton Boyd, Gabe Cruz, Enrique Cruz, Michael DuBose, and Bear Iles.
