UNA Edges Delta State in Overtime 1-0

CLEVELAND, Mississippi – The Lady Statesmen soccer team of Delta State closed out the 2014 season on a chilly Sunday afternoon. DSU fell to the number three team in the South Region, North Alabama, in overtime 1-0.

Tremendous defense from both squads managed to keep the score deadlocked at 0-0 in the first half as well as the second. Two incredible saves by Katie Swaine late in the second half kept the game scoreless and forced extra time.

In the 95th minute of play, UNA's Alyssa Bova scored the golden goal from two assists inside the 18-yard box. Bova found the bottom left corner of the net to give her team the 1-0 lead and the win.

North Alabama owned the 21-8 advantage in shots. Rebecca Deegan led the way for the Green-and-White with three shots, while Tabitha Hayden and Erin Tucker contributed two shots each. Lanie Little added one shot.

While Swaine's performance in goal was impressive, the goalkeeper suffered the loss with eight saves.
