Huntsville, Alabama- The Statesmen of Delta State drop a heartbreaking loss to the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers 2-1 in overtime in the opening round match of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
Delta State got off to a quick start by picking up the lead early in the match. In the 13
th minute of play
Ricardo Filho found the top left corner of the net to put DSU up 1-0. Filho received a ball from Tiago Deneux who played the ball in across the face of the goal.
DSU would be able to hold the advantage heading into the second half. The Charger offense broke the tie when Florent Girardin slotted the ball past a diving

The score would remain tied 1-1 as the final regulation whistle blew. UAH broke through the Statesmen line for the final time in the 98
th minute of play. Leo De Smedt found the back of the net to put Huntsville through in the tournament.
UAH out-shot DSU 30-13 and held the advantage in shots on goal, 12-3.
Jonathan Hilton had a career-high eight saves while his counterpart, Michael Winstone, made two. Huntsville had 13 corner kick opportunities compared to Delta State's three.
Delta State closed out their season in the Quarterfinals of the GSC Tournament, the second time in program history that DSU made the postseason. The Statesmen finish the season with a 7-10-0 record and an 4-5-0 record in conference play.
