Fraschi eclipsed the prior school record time (56.67) set last season by Christian Barrett. Fraschi would later break his own school record in the 200-Breaststroke (2:02.77), with Tombers (2:12.28) adding another second place finish. Delta State would sweep the top spot in the 200-Butterfly with
Vlad Zinca (1:57.73) finishing ahead of
Paul Stewart (1:59.99), and
Colton Fremont (2:02.87).
Bear Iles (21.45) out-sprinted the competition in the 50-Freestyle. Wendel added another victory (45.98) in the 100-Freestyle, with
Nick Zorn (47.99) finishing third overall.
The Statesmen would register the top four times in the 500-Freestyle; Vaughan (4:44.57) won the event followed by teammates
Mike Nikolic (4:50.98),
Jared Meredith (4:58.00), and
Rhett Guinot (4:59.43).
The trio of Zinca (50.70), Wendel (51.02), and Iles (52.58) swept the top spots at the meet in the 100-Butterfly. While Fraschi (1:53.05), Vaughan (1:57.77), Tombers (1:59.48), and Freemont (2:00.88) had the four best times in the 200-Individual Medley.
The Statesmen ended the swimming with a win (1:25.73) in the meet finale 200-Freestyle Relay.
Matthew Swaine scored runner-up (230.00) from 3-M and was victorious from 1-M (297.15) in the diving.
Delta State will now turn the focus to the conference swim meet to be hosted from the DSU Aquatics Center to run all day on February 19-22. Last season, the Lady Statesmen picked up the conference title and will be looking to secure the first back-to-back conference titles since 2001-2002. The Statesmen secure runner-up honors last season and will look to better that position this season.
