Games 37-39: Delta State University at Shorter University (4.18-19.14)

CLEVELAND, Miss. -  Delta State University (28-8, 19-4 GSC) returns to Gulf South Conference action this weekend, traveling to newcomer Shorter University (9-26, 6-15 GSC) who is in the final year of the transition process from NAIA to NCAA D-II membership. DSU and SU are meeting for the 4th time, with DSU sweeping the three games between the schools last season.

The No. 7 Statesmen have won the last two games, and finished a non-conference week with a 4-1 record at Young Harris and Southern Arkansas.

With a team batting average of .333, Delta State features five of the top-10 batting averages in the Gulf South Conference in the starting lineup. Will Robertson (.373) leads the Statesmen and is third in the GSC. Kasey Hinton (.354), Jordan Chovanec (.351), Landon Thibodeaux (.351), and Carlos Leal (.350) rank 6-7-8-9 in the conference standings.

Senior catcher Carlos Leal leads the team in on base percentage (.480), walks (18), and hit by pitch (13). Leal has also thrown out 7-of-18 would be base stealers this season.

Senior outfielder Dex Herrington is providing offense from right field, leading the Statesmen in runs scored (40), doubles (11), and total bases (71). Herrington also sits second on the team in home runs (four) and RBI (29).
