Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Miss. – The No. 7 Statesmen of Delta State University completed the sweep of the No. 4 Argonauts of the University of West Florida by claiming a pair of victories Saturday, April 26, 4-0 and 7-4, at Ferriss Field. With the sweep, the Statesmen (35-9, 24-5 GSC) clinched the Gulf South Conference regular season title and the top seed entering next week's tournament in Birmingham, Ala.

Mike Kinnison said. "We came through at the plate, on the mound and in the field when we had to this weekend and I hope we can carry this momentum into next week's GSC Tournament. I'm also proud of the way our seniors led us in the series and especially today on Senior Day."
Drew Milligan (3-2) tossed 7.0 scoreless innings, as the Statesmen defeated the Argonauts 4-0 to clinch the series in game one. The junior from Olive Branch, Miss., claimed his third conference win in the victory.
After a leadoff walk to
Carlos Leal, senior first baseman
Brent Langston put the Statesmen on top 2-0 with a blast over the left field wall on a hanging curve from UWF starter Dayan Rodriquez.
DSU added a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead, as
Dex Herrington plated Jonathon Andrews, who singled back up the box, from third on a fielder's choice up the middle.
Rodriquez did not return for the sixth, as UWF brought in Walker O'Conner from the bullpen. The right-hander worked out of potential scoring situations in the sixth and seventh innings to keep UWF within striking distance.
Milligan did not allow an Argonaut into scoring position from the third inning until the sixth; retiring 15 of the 20 batters he faced during the four-inning stretch.
Leading 3-0, Milligan gave way to
Nick Goza in the eighth inning. The junior from Broken Arrow, Okla., worked a quick inning to preserve the lead.
Back-to-back doubles by Leal and Langston off O'Conner extended DSU's lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the eighth. DSU loaded the bases before the Argonauts worked out of the jam.
In the ninth, UWF tried to mount a comeback. Kaleb Barlow drew a one out walk followed by an Austin Southhall single to right. Goza settled down to retire the next two batters and preserve the 4-0 win.
Milligan earned the win after giving up just two hits in 7.0 innings of work. The junior from Olive Branch, Miss., walked three and struck out four en route to his third GSC victory.
Goza recorded his first save after throwing 2.0 scoreless innings while allowing a hit. He walked one and recorded one strikeout.
Rodriquez (6-1) took his first loss of the season after pitching 5.0 innings while surrendering three runs on six hits. The senior right-hander walked one and struck out two in the loss.
Langston turned in a memorable Senior Day performance, as the Southaven, Miss., native collected three RBIs with a two-run home run, single and RBI double.
Andrews went 3-for-4 as well, while Leal added two hits with two runs scored.
The Argonauts jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second of Saturday's doubleheader. A leadoff single by Sean Plunkett and a double by Austin Southhall set up the inning for UWF. Back-to-back RBI ground outs by Bajdaun and Kyle Hamner put plated the runners for the early advantage.
UWF's Truman Jefferson drove in the third run of the game with a ground out to short in the top of the third. Plunkett's run put the Argonauts up 3-0.
DSU finally got to Jordan DeLorenzo in the bottom of the third, as
Ben Pickard's two-RBI single to left cut the Argonauts' lead to one run, 3-2.
Alex Greene's RBI single to left got one of the runs back for UWF in the bottom of the fourth to put the Argonauts back up 4-2.
The Statesmen broke the game open in the fifth, as Delta State plated five runs to take a commanding 7-4 lead. Chovanec, Herrington and Langston provided RBIs in the frame, but it was Pickard's two-RBI double to left-center that provided the cushion needed for the win.
After the Statesmen claimed the lead, Moody never looked back, as the junior retired the next six batters he faced.

Mike Kinnison brought in close
Taylor Stark to end the game in the seventh. The senior from Brandon, Miss., retired the side to preserve the 7-4 win en route to his team-leading fourth save.
Moody (8-2) earned the victory with 6.0 innings of work. The Millington, Tenn., native allowed four runs on six hits in the start with seven strikeouts.
DeLorenzo (10-1) suffered his first loss of the season after surrendering seven runs, two earned, on nine hits in 3.2 innings pitched. The junior walked two with four strikeouts.
Matt Rodriquez tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Picked led the Statesmen at the plate with four RBIs in a 2-for-3 performance. Herrington finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and Chovanec collected two hits with a run scored as well.
Delta State returns to action on Friday, May 2 in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Baseball Tournament at Young Memorial Field in Birmingham, Ala. The University of Alabama at Birmingham is hosting in the five-day event. Game times will be announced on Sunday, April 27. All DSU games will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network.
