Cotta Scores Two En Route to 3-1 Win over Louisiana College

Box Score PINEVILLE, Louisiana – Delta State University women's soccer was on the road to face Louisiana College on Wednesday night. The Lady Statesmen earned a 3-1 win over the Lady Wildcats to improve to 1-1-0 on the season, while their opponent fell to 0-5-0 on the year.

Delta State took the advantage in the first half when Tabitha Hayden earned the unassisted tally, her first of the season, to give DSU the 1-0 lead at the 21-minute mark. Less than five minutes later, Tais Cotta tacked on the go-ahead goal when Hayden fed Cotta a through ball, notching the score at two-nil.
 
With 20 minutes left in the game, Louisiana College spoiled the shutout with a goal. The Green-and-White answered right back with the game winding down on Cotta's second goal of the game and the season.
 
The score remained tilted in DSU's favor, 3-1, until the last horn sounded.
 
DSU held the advantage in every category, including shots 13-8 and shots on goal 8-5. Katie Swaine snagged four saves en route to her first win of the year.  
 
Head coach Paul Babba was pleased with his players' performance. "I think our girls played well tonight. We are excited about the win, but we want to continue to improve as a whole to get ready for the rest."
 
The Lady Statesmen take on Louisiana State University at Alexandria on the second leg of their Louisiana road trip on Friday, Sept. 12. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
