Shorter Holds Off Lady Statesmen, 2-1

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Jen Rogers scored two goals as Shorter University (6-8, 3-6 GSC) held off a late Delta State University women's soccer (3-10-1, 0-9-0 GSC) comeback for a 2-1 win on Sunday at Delta Field. Prior to the game the Lady Statesmen honored seniors Tais Cotta and Kailey Bryan, who played their final home game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks grabbed a 1-0 lead when Jen Rogers corner kick curved into the goal in the 25th minute.
  • Delta State held a 6-5 advantage in shots, putting three on goal in the first half.
  • Rogers headed home a Katelyn Mullienix cross in the 65th minute gave Shorter a 2-0 lead.
  • The Lady Statesmen finally got on the board on a Kailey Bryan goal, off an assist from Tabitha Hayden, to cut the deficit to 2-1 with just over 10 minutes left in the match.
  • Delta State had two scoring chances in the final three minutes only to see Shorter goalkeeper Haley Lademann stop both shots by Bryan and Cotta from close range.
  • Lady Statesmen goalkeeper Taylor Taffo made three saves.
  • The Lady Statesmen held an 8-6 edge in shots on goal with both teams attempting 11 shots.
