HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One – Ohio Dominican
  • DSU got scoring started early in the contest on a triple that found the right corner of the field for Kaitlin Moore, scoring Mariah Alvarez to take the early 1-0 lead.
  • The Panthers responded in the next two innings with small ball, RBI singles to take the 2-1 lead in the third.
  • Delta State came out firing in the fifth by plating three runs on RBI singles from Kassidy Tally, Moore, and Amber Adcock to regain the advantage 4-2.
  • Two more ODU runs in the seventh locked the game at 4-4 but not for long.
  • With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fourth, senior Andrea Cutts used discipline in the batter's box to draw the walk, scoring Alvarez for the winning run to take the 5-4 victory.
  • Moore led with a single, double, and triple in four at-bats and drove in three runs. Tally followed by going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
  • Freshman Shayna Beaver (2-0) earned the win in the circle, pitching the complete game and giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits and striking out four.

Game Two – Kentucky Wesleyan
  • KWC struck first in the third inning with one run, but the threat stopped there, as that was the Panther's only run of the game.
  • The Lady Statesmen came back and took the lead in the top frame of the fourth on a Kory Watterson single to score Adcock and Cutts and earn the 2-1 tilt.
  • Delta State built on their lead in the sixth with Watterson at the plate again and Ellen Tarrant and Ashley Mrozinski in scoring position. Another two-RBI single scored Tarrant and Mrozinski for DSU to lead 4-1.
  • Kentucky Wesleyan went scoreless in the sixth and seventh for the Green-and-White to claim their sixth straight win.
  • Watterson led the offensive attack, going a perfect 3-for-3 and driving in all four runs.
  • Jasper, Ala. native Katie Justice (1-0) went seven strong innings in the win over the Panthers, giving up one unearned run on five hits and striking out six batters.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Nesbit, Miss. native Kory Watterson came through with a hit in every at-bat in day two of the Charger Chillout.
  • Delta State extended its win streak to six games and starts the season 6-0, the best start to a season head coach Casey Bourgoyne-Charles has seen in her seven-year tenure.

WHO'S NEXT
The Green-and-White will wrap up play at the Charger Chillout on Sunday, Feb. 7 against North Georgia at 9:00 a.m. and Southern Arkansas at 1:00 p.m.

QUOTABLE – Head Coach Casey Bourgoyne-Charles
"We are excited about a strong start to our season. We're playing a couple different lineups and using our pitching staff as a whole. We started a different pitcher in all four games so far this weekend. They each went for complete games and kept us in it, giving our hitters a chance to come through. We've had some real timely hits to score runs and our defense played well. We're looking forward to finishing strong tomorrow and our focus right now is on getting that first win in the morning."
