MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lady Statesmen softball team of Delta State University fell to No. 15 Georgia College and State University on Monday afternoon to suffer their second straight sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENEDGame One- Taylor Holland got things started for the Lady Statesmen in the third inning, giving them the 2-0 lead with a two-RBI double to left field, scoring Kassidy Tally and Madison Zoeller.
- Georgia College answered in the bottom of the fourth by plating a run on an RBI-double and executing on a DSU fielding error, scoring two runs and tying the game at 2-2.
- With the score deadlocked at 2-2 after regulation, extra innings was forced. Delta State could not capitalize at the plate in its at-bat in the top of the eighth.
- The Bobcats took the victory in walk-off fashion, scoring the winning run on a squeeze play and taking game one 3-2.
- Holland led from the plate, going 2-for-4 and driving in the only two runs.
- Katie Justice (1-1) had a tremendous outing but suffered the loss. The freshman tossed 7.1 innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits.
Game Two- Georgia College carried its momentum into game two by scoring four runs in its first at-bat, giving the Bobcats the commanding 4-0 lead.
- The next inning, another GC run crossed the plate to extend the lead to 5-0 over Delta State.
- Memrie Corely was responsible for the lone run in the top of the fourth when she connected for an infield single to score Brook Cline. DSU trailed 5-1.
- GC tacked on three more runs on back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the sixth to lead 8-1 with Delta State's last at-bat coming in the next frame.
- The Green-and-White left two stranded on one hit in the top of the seventh for Georgia College to complete the sweep.
- Five different Lady Statesmen recorded hits in game two but were outhit 10-5.
- Shayna Beaver (4-1) took the loss, pitching 0.2 innings and giving up four earned runs on four hits.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE- Game one marked the third extra-innings contest for DSU in 2015. The other two resulted in wins against Henderson State and West Alabama.
- Georgia College was the second consecutive series for Delta State against top-25 teams. The Lady Statesmen are now 0-5 against ranked teams this season.
WHO'S NEXTDSU will return to Gulf South Conference play on Saturday, March 7 in Memphis, Tenn. against Christian Brothers. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m. The series finale will take place on Sunday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m.
