Scouting MC: Delta State University (15-12,10-7 GSC) travels Mississippi College (11-25, 3-20 GSC) for a three-game conference series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Clinton, Mississippi. The Choctaws probable weekend rotation is Jake Fraze (LHP), Brooks Fortenberry (LHP), and Taylor Olsen (RHP). Fraze is 2-4 with a 7.99 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 20 walks. Fortenberry is 2-4 with a 5.04 ERA and leads the team with 56 strikeouts and has allowed 37 runs, 34 earned. Olsen is 2-4 with a 6.75 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 28 walks while giving up 41 runs, 34 earned. Mississippi College is batting .299 as a team with 15 home runs and 217 runs scored. Mississippi College has six players hitting better than .300. Kyle Smith leads the team with .393 average, followed Hunter Bolin with a .337 average. Inside The MC Series: Delta State and Mississippi College meet for the first time since 1996 before the Choctaws moved to NCAA Division III in 1997. The Statesmen lead the all-time series 116-48-1 and have won three straight games in the series. The two schools met for the first time in 1937, with MC claiming a 17-1 win in Cleveland. Delta State is 50-24-2 at Mississippi College; 62-14 in games played in Cleveland, Mississippi and 2-0 in neutral site contests. There has been two extra innings contests out of the 163 games played in the series with the Statesmen winning both games {1948 | 9-2 (10) & 1998 | 9-2 (9)}.
Mr. 800: Delta State University scored 11 runs in the first two innings en route to a 20-0 win over Christian Brothers to give Head Coach Mike Kinnison win number 800 on Wednesday at Nadicksbernd Field. In 19 seasons as head coach, the Benton, Mississippi, native is 800-252-2. Kinnison, who is a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, joined the 750-win club in a 5-2 victory over West Alabama (2.15.14).
GSC Series: The Statesmen are 8-3 in their last 11 GSC games and have won four straight GSC series: Lee University (2-1), Union (3-0), Alabama-Huntsville (2-1) and West Georgia (2-1) since getting swept in a doubleheader at Valdosta State (3.1.15).
Road Warriors: Delta State traveled more than 3,000 miles in the first three weeks of the season, playing the first nine games on the road before hosting SAU on Wednesday, March 11. In all, DSU is set to travel almost 6,000 miles this season.
