HOW IT HAPPENED- DSU struck first in the top of the second inning scoring two runs on two hits. Kory Watterson led things off with a hit-by-pitch and later came around to score on a Mariah Alvarez RBI-double. Kassidy Tally's sacrifice bunt moved Alvarez to third, while Kara Lane Nowell drove her in with a single to first base.
- The two-run second was the only offense produced by the Lady Statesmen all day, which ended up being enough to take the win.
- Mississippi College scored one run in the bottom of the seventh on a squeeze play executed by MC's Subervielle. With two outs and a runner at third, DSU's defense was able to hold on for the 2-1 win, taking the series two games out of three.
- Delta State only recorded four hits in the outing, coming from Watterson, Alvarez, Nowell, and Memrie Corley.
- Freshman Katie Justice (3-3) picked up the complete-game victory, pitching 7.0 strong innings and giving up one earned run on eight hits.
STAT OF THE DAY- The Lady Statesmen used four consecutive quality at-bats in the second inning to score their only two runs of the day.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE- DSU has now won conference series over Mississippi College, West Georgia, and West Alabama.
- Mariah Alvarez has certainly hit her stride in the batter's box. The junior from Saginaw, Texas is 13-for-29 (.448) in the last nine games.
- MC more than doubled the amount of hits put up by Delta State, 8-4.
- The four-hit team performance is the lowest since game two with Union on March 16.
UP NEXT- The Green-and-White will stay on the road for a doubleheader against Henderson State on Monday, April 13 starting at 2 p.m.
