CLEVELAND, Mississippi – The Gulf South Conference baseball series between Delta State University (18-14, 12-7 GSC) and Shorter University (14-18, 9-15 GSC) has been rescheduled for Sunday (DH) at 1 p.m. and Monday at 2 p.m. due to the weather in the area. Scouting Shorter: Delta State (18-14, 12-8 GSC) hosts Shorter (14-18, 9-15 GSC) for a three-game GSC series starting with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m. and concluding with a single game on Monday at 2 p.m. The Hawks probable pitching rotation includes Travis McPherson (RHP), Colton Cross (LHP), and Russell Crosby (RHP). McPherson is 0-3 with a 5.15 ERA and leads the team with 54 strikeouts. Cross is 2-4 with a 4.20 ERA and has allowed 19 runs, 14 earned, with 23 strikeouts and 16 walks. Crosby is 2-6 with 4.50 ERA and is second on the team with 41 strikeouts. Brandon Reynolds has three saves with 32 strikeouts in 16 relief appearances. Zach Santos leads the team with a .366 average, 12 doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBIs. George Ragsdale is hitting .350 and is second with 34 RBIs along with three home runs. The Hawks are hitting .294 with 41 doubles, five triples, 18 home runs and 21 stolen bases ( 26 attempts).
The SU Series: Delta State leads the series 5-1. The Statesmen are 3-0 at Ferriss Field and 2-1 at the Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex. Delta State won 10-2 (GM 1/4.18.14), lost 2-1 (GM 2.18.14) and won 9-7 (GM 3 / 4.19.14) in last years series in Rome, Georgia. The first meeting between the schools was on April 6, 2013 with the Statesmen winning 8-1 in game one of the three-game series in Cleveland, Mississippi. Delta State won 13-5 win in game two (4.6.13) and 4-1 in game three (4.7.13) to sweep the series.
Last Time Out: Jake Brumfield struck out a career-high eight hitters and scattered two hits over five scoreless innings in a 3-1 win over Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday. Landon Thibodeaux went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second inning and Ethan Gill hit a solo-home run in the fifth. Juan Rivera's RBI single in the fifth gave the Statesmen a 3-0 lead. Nick Goza recorded the last out in the ninht for his sixth save of the season.
Statesmen Streaks: Landon Thibodeaux has a four-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 14 straight games. Ben Pickard has reached base safely in 13 consecutive games and Jonathan Andrews has reached base safely in 10 straight games.
Noteables: Ben Pickard leads DSU with 10 multiple-RBI games followed by Ethan Gill with nine. Brandon Cummins has 19 multi-hit games followed by Jacob Swiney and Gill with 12 and 11, respectively. The Statesmen have hit 33 home runs in 2015 the most since hitting 35 in 2010.
GSC Series: The Statesmen are 10-4 in their last 14 GSC games and have won five straight GSC series: Mississippi College (2-1); Lee University (2-1), Union (3-0), Alabama-Huntsville (2-1) and West Georgia (2-1) since getting swept in a doubleheader at Valdosta State (3.1.15).
