Friday's Delta State At Lee Baseball Game Moved To 2:30 p.m. CDT

CLEVELAND, Tennessee –Delta State University (11-11, 8-6 GSC) travels to Lee University (19-12-1, 9-10-1 GSC) for a three-game Gulf South Conference baseball series starting with a single game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. CDT followed by a Saturday doubleheader at 12 p.m. (CDT) in Cleveland, Tennessee. Friday's game was moved up from 5 p.m. to a 2:30 p.m. CDT due to the rain chances in the Cleveland, Tennessee area.

GAME NOTES

Scouting Lee: Delta State University (11-11, 8-6 GSC) travels to Lee University (19-12-1, 9-10-1 GSC) for a three-game conference series starting with a single game on Friday at 5 p.m. CDT followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m. (CDT) in Cleveland, Tennessee.   Lee is the newest member of the Gulf South Conference and will be eligible for conference championships in 2015-16.  The Flames two-of-three games to West Florida last weekend, avoiding the sweep with a 7-4 win on Sunday.  Lee captured a 15-1 win against Young Harris College in a  midweek contest on Wednesday.  The Flames probable weekend rotation includes Dustin Lawson, Trenton Hill and Jacob Potts. Lawson is 2-1 with a 2.04 ERA and has 52 strikeouts and 19 walks in 57.1 innings pitched. Hill is 5-3 with a 2.53 ERA, and a team-high 68 strikeouts Potts 2-3 with a 3.38 ERA and 11 strikeouts in seven appearances, four starts.  Siosi Poti leads the team with a .353 average followed by Trenton Hill with a .318 average.  Ben Holland has a team-high four home runs and is tied for second with  Trenton Hill and M.J. Brown with 17 RBIs.  Andres Nelo leads the team with eight doubles along with three triples and three home runs.  Lee University is hitting .285 and have outscored opponents 153-106 with 48 doubles, eight triples and 13 home runs. 

The LU Series: Delta State leads the series 2-1 heading into this weekend's series. The two clubs met for the first time last season in Cleveland, Mississippi, with DSU claiming 9-0 and 11-1 wins while the Flames captured a 5-3 win in game two. 

 Last Time Out:  The Green and White scored 14 runs over the first three innings en route to a 31-7 win over Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday in Itta Bena, Mississippi.  The Statesmen set season highs in runs scored (31) and hits (26).  Ethan Gill hit two home runs and had three RBIs and scored four runs and Trent Giambrone came off the bench and went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs.  Delta State had 13 different players collect at least one hit.

Statesmen Streaks: Ethan Gill has reached base safely in 19 straight games and also has a five-game hitting streak entering thethe weekend. Jacob Swiney has an 10-game hitting streak and has reach base safely in 16 consecutive games.  Brandon Cummins has a seven-game hitting streak and Matt Barrett has a six-game hitting streak. 

GSC Series: The Statesmen are 7-2 in their last nine GSC games and have won three straight GSC series over Union (3-0), Alabama-Huntsville (2-1) and West Georgia (2-1) since getting swept in a doubleheader at Valdosta State (3.1.15).  

Road Warriors:  The Statesmen traveled more than 3,000 miles in the first three weeks of the season, playing the first nine games on the road before hosting SAU on Wednesday, March 11. In all, DSU is set to travel almost 6,000 miles this season.

Chasing 800: Delta State University head baseball coach Mike Kinnison is five wins away from 800 career victories entering the UAH Series.  In 19 seasons as head coach, the Benton, Mississippi, native is 796-251-2. Kinnison, who is a member of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, joined the 750-win club last season.  The former All-American shortstop at Delta State picked up his 750th career in a 5-2 victory over West Alabama (2.15.14).

The Close Ones:  In DSU's 22 games this season, 12 games have been decided by one run.  The Statesmen are 5-7 in one run games.  The Statesmen started 0-5 in one-run affairs but are 4-2 since. Six of the Statesmen's last nine games have been decided by one run, including all three in the West Georgia series last weekend.  DSU captured an 8-7 win over Arkansas-Monticello on Tuesday.
