HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Statesmen plated the first run of the game in the home half of the first when Kory Watterson walked with the bases loaded, scoring Taylor Holland from third to give DSU the early 1-0 lead.
  • Shorter responded in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 1-1, when SU's Carter flew out to right field but scored Johnson on a DSU throwing error.
  • Delta State answered right back with a run in the home half of the fourth. Kassidy Tally led things off by drawing a walk, stealing second, and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt from Kara Lane Nowell. Tally later came around to score on a wild pitch to give DSU the 2-1 advantage.
  • Another Lady Statesman run crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth when Ashley Mrozinski scored with the bases loaded on a fielder's choice from Mariah Alvarez.
  • The deficit was too much for Shorter to overcome, falling by a final 3-1.
  • Kaitlin Moore led Delta State's offense with a 2-for-2 day, two of DSU's three total hits. Amber Adcock contributed the other hit and finished the day going 1-for-4.
  • Freshman Shayna Beaver (10-5) continues to be exceptional in the circle. Beaver picked up her second win of the series, pitching her eighth complete game of the season and giving up one unearned run.

STAT OF THE DAY
  • Shorter doubled the hits put up by Delta State, 6-3, but the deciding factor came from DSU's heads-up basing running.
