CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lady Statesmen softball team of Delta State University suffered a sweep in the doubleheader against Lee University on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1- The Lady Flames struck first in the bottom of the third inning on a two-RBI double from Ceasar, giving Lee the 2-0 lead.
- Lee's Lynn singled to the infield, tacking on another run and extending the Lady Flames' lead 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
- Delta State finally got on the board in the top of fifth when Taylor Holland grounded out to the shortstop, scoring Kara Lane Nowell and notching the score at 3-1.
- A Lee three-run home run by Dagnan in the bottom frame of the fifth gave the Lady Flames the 6-1 advantage.
- Senior Brook Cline hit a sacrifice fly out to left field, deep enough to score Andrea Cutts from third. DSU trailed Lee 6-2 in the top of the sixth.
- The Lady Flames scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth on a single from Drew that added one more run to their run tally, leading Delta State 7-2 with DSU's last at-bat coming in the next inning.
- Three Lady Statesmen runs came across to score in the top of the seventh. Amber Adcock's single up the middle scored Mariah Alvarez, while Kassidy Tally's two-RBI single scored Katelyn Westbrook and Ellen Tarrant. However, the deficit was too much for Delta State to overcome, falling to Lee 7-5.
- Holland, Tally, and Kory Watterson gave multi-hit performances. The Lady Flames outhit DSU 14-10.
- Freshman Shayna Beaver (6-5) suffered the loss in the circle, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up six earned runs on 12 hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 2- Lee's Drew doubled up the middle in the top of the first to jump out in front of Delta State and take the 1-0 lead.
- In her next at-bat in the bottom of the third, Drew hit a grand slam that added four runs to the Lady Flames' advantage, 5-0.
- DSU threatened in the top of the fourth but stranded two runners without plating a run. In their next at-bat, the Lady Statesmen got on the board in the top of the fifth courtesy of Holland's RBI-single to left field that scored Memrie Corley, putting the score at 5-1.
- Three more Lee runs were tacked on in the bottom of the fifth, notching the score at 8-1 in favor of the Lady Flames.
- In the top of the sixth, Mariah Alvarez sent a three-run shot over the fence, her first homer of the season, that scored Westbrook and Tarrant, cutting the lead in half, 8-4.
- Lee plated two more runs on doubles from Drew and Dagnan in the bottom of the sixth that resulted in the final score, 10-4.
- The Lady Flames outhit DSU 16-5. Adcock contributed two hits, while Holland, Alvarez, and Corley each tallied one apiece.
- Taylor Johnson (6-3) took the loss, going 2.0 innings and giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits.
STAT OF THE DAY- The Lady Flames had twice as many hits as DSU in the doubleheader, 30-15.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE- With her 3-for-8 day, senior Amber Adcock passed Meredith Coleman (2003-06) on the all-time hits list at Delta State. Adcock is now fourth with 223 and is chasing Alyse Hasty (2003-06) who holds the top spot with 292.
- Adcock is currently on a 10-game hit streak.
- Senior Taylor Holland has driven in one run in four out of the last five games and is on a five-game hit streak from the leadoff spot.
