Lady Statesmen Soccer Set For UWG, VSU

CLEVELAND, Miss. – A home game and a trip to Valdosta, Georgia, present a challenging Gulf South Conference weekend for the Delta State University women's soccer team. The Lady Statesmen host the University of West Georgia at Delta Field on Friday at 3 p.m. before taking the long bus ride to Valdosta State on Sunday at 12 p.m. Central in Valdosta, Ga.

ABOUT DSU:
  • The Lady Statesmen are 1-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the GSC after a 0-0 tie against LSU-Alexandria last time out.
  • Midfielders Bailey Saebi and Taylor Guess lead the team with a goal apiece, while Rebecca Deegan has two assists.
  • Goalkeeper Taylor Taffo started three games in goal and is 1-2 with 27 saves. Ravin Hosley started the LSU-Alexandria contest, recording seven saves in the scoreless draw.
 
ABOUT WEST GEORGIA: 
  • The Wolves are 3-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the GSC, defeating Spring Hill College 7-1 on Sunday, Sept. 13.
  • Suzana Abundiz leads the Wolves with five points (2 G, 1 A), while Kelly Geary has two goals.
  • Katie Mitchell and Cari Powell have recorded two assists.
  • Katie Miklausich has started four games in the nets for UWG, recording 12 saves with two shutouts.
 
ABOUT VALDOSTA: 
  • The Blazers are 1-3-0, opening GSC play at Christian Brothers in Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday 6 p.m. VSU defeated Clayton State 2-1 in its last outing.
  • Madison Cutts leads the Blazers with two goals followed by Logan Lindy and Jordan Humbert with one goal apiece. Mallory McDaniel has been credited with two assists.
  • McCall Gardner has started four games in goal and has 23 saves.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES:  
  • West Georgia holds a 9-1 lead in the series and has won the last seven contests.  The Lady Statesmen's lone win dates to a 2-1 win on Sept. 28, 2007 in Cleveland, Miss.
  • Valdosta State is 3-0-1 against the Lady Statesmen, tying 2-2 on Sept. 21, 2013.

The Lady Statesmen return home for two GSC matches against West Alabama on Friday, Sept. 25 and Sunday, Sept. 27 against Alabama Huntsville at 1:30 p.m. both days.
