CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University swimming and diving teams return to action on Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday Oct 22. The No. 6 Statesmen travel to No. 18 Missouri S&T on Friday before ending the weekend on Saturday versus No. 2 Lindenwood. The No. 7 Lady Statesmen are scheduled to face to No. 6 Lindenwood on Saturday.
Friday's action is set to begin at 6 p.m. CT, while the Lindenwood meet is scheduled for 11 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT:
- The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen traveled to the Little Rock Invitational in their third meet of the season. The Statesmen defeated New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference rival Henderson State and Incarnate Word to earn a first-place finish while the Lady Statesmen finished fourth.
ABOUT THE STATESMEN:
- With his victory in the 100-Breaststroke at Little Rock, Matteo Fraschi owns the fastest time (55.41) in the country. Fraschi also owns the second best time (2:03.49) in the 200-Breaststroke.
- Mattia Schirru ranks fifth in the 100-Freestyle (46.34) and eighth in the 50 (21.05).
- Cody Lavoie has the fourth fastest time in the 200-IM (1:53.13) and the 10th best 100-Breaststroke (57.62).
- Nathan Sawicki (sixth, 1000-Freestyle, 9:49.27), Adam Charlton (eighth, 200-Butterfly, 1:54.15) and Alex Peach (10th, 200-Breaststroke, 2:08.39) have also turned in top-10 times.
- The relay team of Lavoie, Fraschi, Fabrice Wendel and Schirru ranks fifth in the 200 (1:33.92) and the 400-Medley Relay (3:27.86).
ABOUT THE LADY STATESMEN
- Newcomer Caroline Jouisse ranks second in the 1000-Freestyle with a 10:17.83. She also has the sixth fastest time in the 500-Freestyle (5:03.11) and seventh best 200-Freestyle (1:54.03).
- Anastasia Klyarovskaya holds the second fastest time in the 100-Backstroke (56.67), the sixth best 200-Freestyle (1:53.96), the eighth fastest 200-Backstroke (2:06.74) and ninth best 200-IM (2:09.80).
- After posting a 10:20.12 at Little Rock, ten-time NCAA All-American Melanie Tombers ranks third in the 1000-Freestyle.
- Celina Batsel owns the 10th best standard, with a 24.37 in the 50-Freestyle.
- The Lady Statesmen own three top-10 times in relay events. Klyarovskaya, Kirsten Stroven, Kierstin Page and Chloe Bennett are fifth in the 200-Medley relay (1:47.39). Hannah Hummer, Maria Belisario, Batsel and Bennett also rank fifth in the 400-Freestyle relay (3:35.26) and Batsel, Jouisse, Erin Newman and Bennett are 10th in the 200-Freestyle relay (1:39.79).
SERIES NOTE:
The Statesmen defeated Missouri S&T 114-91 last season and defeated Missouri S&T, Maryville and Saint Louis before falling to Lindenwood 146.50 to 94.50 the following day. The Lady Statesmen defeated Saint Louis and Maryville, but fell 147-94 to Lindenwood.
