Lady Statesmen to Host Spring Hill and UWF to Finish Season

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's soccer team will close out its 2016 campaign with a pair of Gulf South Conference home matches. The Lady Statesmen will host Spring Hill College on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 3:00 p.m. and the University of West Florida on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11:00 a.m. Twenty minutes prior to the start of Saturday's match against UWF, Delta State will honor nine seniors on the squad during Senior Day festivities.     
 
INSIDE THE SERIES:
  • Spring Hill leads the series 3-1-1.
  • Friday's game will mark the sixth meeting between Spring Hill and DSU since the series began.
  • In 2015, Spring Hill defeated Delta State 3-2.
  • UWF leads the series 11-0.
  • This will be the 12th meeting between to the two teams.
  • Last season, UWF won 5-0 over Delta State.
 
ABOUT DSU:
  • The Lady Statesmen are currently 5-10 and 1-9 in GSC play.
  • Catherine Thomson scored the game-winning goal against Shorter University on Friday, Oct. 21, handing Delta State its first GSC win of the season.
  • The 2-1 victory over Shorter was head coach Luke Sheekey's first conference win and snapped a 21-game conference losing streak, dating back to 2014.
  • Delta State enters Thursday's match with its best overall record since 2011.
  • DSU's scoring offense ranks fourth in the Gulf South Conference.
  • The Lady Statesmen are fifth in the league assists per game averaging 1.667 per contest.
  • DSU ranks fourth in the GSC in points per game with 5.67.
  • The Lady Statesmen are tied for third place in school history for goals in a season (30), following Friday's match against Shorter. Their 30 goals rank fourth in the GSC.
  • Thomson leads the team in goals, points, shots and shots on goal. She tied the DSU record for goals in a game, when she scored a hat trick against Alcorn State earlier this season.
  • Anoucke Baas leads the team with five assists, which also ranks ninth in the GSC. She is currently second in DSU history for assists in a season.  
  • Emily Oldacre has made 55 saves this season and ranks sixth in the GSC in saves per game.
  • Thomson leads the team in goals with six, followed by Sam Naughton (four), Swaine (four), Tabitha Hayden (three), Ali Sullivan (three), Taylor Guess (three), Deegan (two), Traci Monroe (one), Zoe Scruggs (one), Taylor Schofield (one), Lakyn Cryder (one) and Baas (one).
 
ABOUT SPRING HILL:
  • The Badgers are 0-12-3 and and 0-8-2 in GSC contests.
  • They enter Thursday's match coming off a 3-0 loss to UAH.
  • Spring Hill is still seeking its first conference win of the season and looks to snap a four-game losing streak.
  • Gabrielle Burmaster leads the Badgers' with three goals and one assist.
  • Madison Camet leads the team in shots (41) and shots on goal (14).
  • Spring Hill's defense has allowed 44 goals this season, the most of any team in the GSC. 
  • Goalkeeper, Kayla Beaston, has made 84 saves and allowed 32 goals.
 
ABOUT UWF:
  • No. 17 West Florida is the top team in the GSC with a 13-3 overall record and 10-0 record in GSC action.
  • The Argonauts have found the back of the net 46 times, which ranks first in the GSC.
  • UWF also leads the league in points, averaging 8.25 per game.
  • The Argos also lead the GSC in shots and shots on goal, averaging 8.19 per game.
  • Marjorie Boilesen is the GSC leader in points and assists. Boilesen is the team leader in shots (58) and shots on goal (33), which ranks third in the GSC.
  • Kaley Ward leads the GSC in goals with 12.
  • UWF goalkeeper, Katelyn Burkhart is first in the GSC in goal against average with a GA average of .341. She has made 17 saves this season and only allowed four goals.
