CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Carah Nunez drove in four runs to help lead the Delta State University softball team to a 9-2 victory over the University of West Alabama on Saturday at University Field. With the win, DSU earned its second straight Gulf South Conference series sweep.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Before recording their first hit of the contest, the Lady Statesmen opened the scoring in the bottom of the second on an RBI groundout by Jordan Jones.
- The Tigers scored their lone runs of the game in the top of the third, when Kassidy Tally dropped a fly ball by Ashley Stassin.
- DSU took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth when Jordan Jones, who reached on a two out error, scored from first on a single by Kara Lane Nowell. Nowell was then driven in on an RBI double by Cara Nunez.
- The Lady Statesmen exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth, using an RBI double by Abi Gibson, an RBI groundout by Morgan Kazerooni and a bases loaded double by Nunez.
- Kazerooni drove in the final run of the game when her single to right center scored Tally.
- Amanda Medders (2-3) allowed seven runs, four earned, on seven hits in 4.2 innings. Andrea Edmonds allowed a run on one hit in 0.1 innings of relief, and Stassin allowed one run on two hits in one inning. Â
- Katie Justice (5-1) went the distance, and allowed two unearned runs on eight hits.
- Tally, Gibson and Nunez had two hits apiece to lead DSU.

- The 6-0 start in GSC play marks the best for DSU since going 11-0 to start the 2004 season.
