CLEVELAND, Miss. – The No. 23 Delta State University softball team earned its fifth Gulf South Conference sweep of the season as it defeated Christian Brothers 11-1 in five innings on Sunday at University Field. The victory, coupled with a series loss by No. 11 Alabama Huntsville to No. 4 North Alabama, gives DSU a two game lead for second place in the GSC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After being held to just a pair of runs in the opening contest of Saturday's doubleheader, the Lady Statesmen jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning, using an infield single by Kaitlin Moore and a three run home run by Madison Zoeller.
- The Lady Bucs scored their lone run of the contest in the second on an RBI double to left field by Jacqueline Conlan.
- DSU scored four more in the second, as Zoeller plated a pair on a single to right field, and Jordan Jones smacked her fourth home run of the season.
- The Lady Statesmen added three more in the fourth, as Moore hit her 17 double of the year, and Jones slapped a two-RBI single to center.
- Katie Justice (8-3) went the distance, and allowed one unearned run on five hits, with three strikeouts and a walk. Kasey Beekman (0-18) allowed four runs on two hits in just 0.1 of an inning. Sierra Anderson surrendered seven runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings of relief.
- Moore collected three hits to lead the Lady Statesmen. Kassidy Tally, Zoeller and Jones added two hits apiece.
STAT OF THE DAY:
- After collecting 13 hits over 13 innings on Saturday, the Lady Statesmen had 12 hits in just five innings on Sunday.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Through 40 games, the Lady Statesmen have matched their RBI total (228) from all of last season.
- With her two stolen bases, Tally is now tied for third in NCAA Division II history with 219. She needs 29 more to move into second.
- The five RBI's for Zoeller are a career high.
- DSU has four players with five or more RBIs in a single contest.
- Moore leads the Lady Statesmen with 18 multi-hit games.
- Justice collected her first victory in the circle since March 12 (West Georgia).
