CLEVELAND, Mississippi – The Delta State women's soccer team will open Gulf South Conference play against Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., on Sunday, Sept. 18.
INSIDE THE SERIES:
- Mississippi College leads the series 4-0.
- The match will mark the 2016 GSC opener for both teams.
- Mississippi College is Delta State's only in-state rival among GSC competition.
- In the last meeting between the two teams, Mississippi College defeated Delta State in Cleveland, Miss., 4-1 during the 2015 season.

- The Lady Statesmen enter Sunday's game with a three-game winning streak—the longest winning streak since 2008.
- The 4-1 start to the season is the best start since 2009.
- Delta State's scoring offense ranks fourth in the nation and first in the Gulf South Conference. The Lady Statesmen lead the nation and the league in assists per game averaging 4.4. Delta State is ranked No. 2 in the nation in points per game and first in the GSC in points per game with 14.40.
- The Lady Statesmen tied the record for most goals in a game with an 11-1 victory over Alcorn State on Sept. 13. Catherine Thomson scored a hat-trick during the match and etched her name in the record book, tying the record for most goals scored during a game.
- In just five games, the Lady Statesmen have topped 2015's goal total and the amount of wins.
- Swaine leads the Lady Statesmen offense with four goals, four assists, and 12 points. Her 12 points rank 12th nationally and first in the GSC.
- Rebecca Deegan now moves into first place for most penalty kicks made in a season and career after scoring the game-winning goal on a penalty kick against AUM.
- Thomson and Swaine are tied for the team lead in goals with four apiece, followed by Tabitha Hayden (three), Sam Naughton (three), Ali Sullivan (three), Taylor Guess (two), Deegan (two), Traci Monroe (one), Zoe Scruggs (one), Taylor Schofield (one) and Anoucke Baas (one).
- Baas and Swaine move into second place for most assists in a season with four apiece.
- During Friday's game against AUM, Emily Oldacre tied the fourth place record for most wins in a season and career. She tied the fourth place record for most shutouts in a season (two) on Sept. 7 when the Lady Statesmen swept Louisiana College 7-0.
ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE:
- Mississippi College officially joined the GSC in 1972, but departed from the conference in 1996 and transitioned to an NCAA DIII school. In 2012, MC applied to rejoin the GSC, and the 2016-17 year marks the college's first year as a full member of the NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference since 1996.
- The Lady Choctaws enter Sunday's match coming off a 4-0 win over Millsaps College.
- The Lady Choctaws are currently 3-2 on the season and undefeated at home.
- The Lady Choctaws have taken 67 shots on the season, averaging 13.4 shots per game and 1.80 goals scored per contest.
- Jess Davenport leads the Lady Choctaw offense with five goals, 10 points, and nine shots, followed by Caitlin Hayes. Hayes has totaled eight shots, one assist and one goal.
