MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Delta State men's soccer team suffered a defeat in the second match of 2016 season with a 5-3 loss by Maryville University on Sept. 3, at Signaigo Field in Memphis, Tenn.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Maryville opened scoring in the 20th minute with a goal from Helmut Florencia.
- Pontus Gitselov added to the lead after a penalty kick was awarded to the Saints in the 24th minute.
- Ricardo Filho got the offense going, scoring the first goal for the Statesmen in the 39th minute after being awarded a penalty kick.
- At the 44th minute mark, Filho scored Delta State's second goal to even the score at 2-2.
- Sophomore Connor Hogg opened scoring in the second half with a left footed shot from an assist by Juan Brito making the score 3-2.
- Kevin Doherty of Maryville answered in the 68th minute to even the score at 3-3.
- In the 73rd minute, Gitselov netted a brace and gave the Saints a 4-3 lead.
- The Statesmen scored an own goal in the 78th minute to cap the score at 5-3.
STAT OF THE GAME:
- Delta State scored two of its three goals in the first half.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS:
- Hogg's goal in the second half was the first of his career.
- Filho also recorded his sixth goal as a Statesman.
