CLEVELAND, Mississippi – After a 4-0 win over Millsaps College, the Lady Statesmen will travel to Montevallo, Ala., for their first Gulf South Conference match of the season against the University of Montevallo at 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 4, 2016.
INSIDE THE SERIES:
- Delta State leads the series 3-2-1.
- The Lady Statesmen defeated Montevallo 1-0 during the 2015 season.
ABOUT DSU:
- The Lady Statesmen opened the 2016 campaign with a win over Millsaps College. The 4-0 victory over the Majors marked the second time in program history the Lady Statesmen won their season opener scoring at least 4 goals.
- Senior Katie Swaine leads the team with two goals, followed by Tabitha Hayden and Taylor Schofield, who have one goal apiece.
- The Lady Statesmen are aiming for a 2-0 start to the season, which would be the best start in program history.
- In his first season at the helm, Luke Sheekey captured his first win with the Lady Statesmen at Millsaps. No other head coach in Lady Statesmen soccer history has won their season opener in their first year coaching.
ABOUT MONTEVALLO:
- Montevallo returns to the GSC after changing conference affiliations in 2009.
- The Falcons are currently 0-0-0 in regular season and conference play, after having to postpone their season opener against Shorter on Sept. 1.
- This will be the second season in a row the Falcons will have opened the season against the Lady Statesmen.
- The Falcons finished 2015 with a record of 2-13-2. They tallied 108 shots on the season, but only found the back of the net seven times.
