ST. PETERS, Mo. -- The No. 4 Lady Statesmen swimming and diving team traveled to St. Peters, Missouri, to take on host Lindenwood and William Jewell Saturday in its first road test of the season. While Delta State lost to conference foe Lindenwood, 144-96, the squad picked up a win against the Cardinals, 174-66.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lucia Martelli continues to impress in her debut season with Delta State, taking two individual events in Saturday's competition. In the 100-yard butterfly, the freshman went out in a blistering 26.14 first 50 to take an early lead by over two seconds; her eventual winning time of 56.75 was more than three seconds ahead of Lindenwood runner-up, Abbey Maricle. Martelli followed with an equally dominating performance in the 100 backstroke, touching in 55.80. She was also a member of the second-place 200 medley relay.
- Notching two individual event victories Saturday, junior Celina Batsel turned in one of her best performances as a Lady Statesmen. Batsel not only won the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:53.12, but she also captured the 100 breaststroke. Her time of 1:05.88 was two seconds faster than the rest of the field.
- Freshman Chelsea Borrowdale earned her first collegiate victory, winning the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:38.60. She was also runner-up to Batsel in the 100 breaststroke and on the second-place 200 medley relay for the Lady Statesmen.
- Other individual top-three finishers for Delta State included junior Caroline Jouisse (1000 free), sophomore Sierra Rhodes (1000 free), senior Hailey Leonard (1-meter and 3-meter diving), and freshman Sara Andrews (1-meter and 3-meter diving).
