Gulf Shores, Alabama – The Delta State softball team concluded the final day of competition at the Gulf Coast Invite with a 10-2 loss to No. 8 North Georgia and 9-0 loss to Rollins on Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
- North Georgia struck first in the top of the first inning when Jessica Finch singled up the middle, scoring.
- Starting pitcher Taylor Tucker held the Nighthawks to a 1-0 margin of victory until the top of the third when Sydney Sprague singled to center field scoring Stephanie Hartness and Lexi Duncan, making the score 3-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth the Lady Statesmen started to make a comeback. With bases loaded, Chelsea Lamping stepped up to the plate. She lined out to third, but Shelby Newsom scored on a fielding error from the third baseman to put Delta State on the board. A double steal pulled the game within one run, but Austin Pruitt lined out to end the inning.
- In the top of the fifth, the Nighthawks scored three more runs to lead 6-2.
- The Nighthawks scored four more runs in the top of the sixth to seal the win. Hartness singled up the middle scoring Duncan and Morgan Helton for UNG's seventh and eighth runs. She later scored on a fielder's choice. Alishia Freirson scored the 10th and final run off a throwing error by the shortstop.
- Delta State went through three pitchers. Starting pitcher Taylor Johnson (1-2) suffered the loss. In 2.1 innings of work, Johnson allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits. Bailie Springfield allowed three runs on two hits in two innings, and Brooke Watts allowed four runs on four hits.
- Bria Bush earned the win as she allowed two runs on two hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 2
- In the bottom of the first, Rollins scored the first runs of the game when Chelsea Reed singled to first base. Abigail Sexton's 2 RBI single to left field put Rollins up 3-0 heading into the top of the first.
- A bases loaded walk put Rollins up 4-0 in the bottom of the second.
- Kacie Booth's two-run home run put Rollins ahead 6-0.
- Rollins sealed the win in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three more runs off a home run and back-to-back RBI singles.
- Starting pitcher, Taylor Tucker (0-2) suffered the loss. Tucker allowed four runs (one earned) on seven hits and struck-out two.
- Sarah Piening earned the win for Rollins, allowing only four hits.
- Abi Gibson, Carlie Vice, and Kristen Mitchell all recorded hits.

- The Lady Statesmen left seven runners stranded in game two, compared to eight by Rollins.
