CLEVELAND, Miss. – Out to their second best four-game start in program history, the Delta State University men's soccer team is set to open up Gulf South Conference play with a pair of games at Lee University on Sept. 15 and Shorter University on Sept 17. The Statesmen travel to Cleveland, Tenn. for a 6 p.m. CT Friday contest against the Flames, and then head to Rome, Ga. for a 2:30 p.m. CT Sunday tilt against the Hawks.
"We're excited to start GSC play this weekend," said head coach
Andy Robertson. "We've had a good start, but this is where results really count so we need to be meticulous in our preparation. The team is excited and hopefully we can keep our good start going."

INSIDE THE SERIES:
- Shorter owns a 4-1 advantage over Delta State in the all-time series, having edged the Statesmen 1-0 last season.
- DSU carries an 0-4-1 record all-time against Lee, drawing in their lone matchup last season 1-1.
ABOUT LEE:
- The Flames enter their tilt with the Statesmen holding a 1-1-2 record on the season to this point, falling 1-0 to Young Harris is their most recent outing.
- Junior Drew Jackson leads the Flames with two goals on the year. The Mount Juliet, Tenn. native also leads the team in shots (12) and shots on goal (3).
- Lee was picked to finish 5th in the preseason Gulf South Conference Coaches Poll behind West Alabama, West Florida, Mississippi College and Montevallo.
- The Flames went 9-7-2 last season, including a 4-3-2 mark in GSC play and an appearance in the GSC tournament.
ABOUT SHORTER:
- The Hawks have yet to get into the win column this year, falling Trinity Baptist, Florida Southern, Florida Tech and Dalton State to open the season.
- Sophomore forward Justen Macias paces Shorter with two goals and one assist. Sophomore Felix Guijosa sits right behind Macias with one goal and one assist through the team's first four games.
- The Hawks went 7-6-2 a year ago, including a 6-1-2 record in GSC Play last season.
- Shorter was picked to finish eighth in the preseason GSC poll by the league's head coaches.

After games against Lee and Shorter, the Statesmen are on the road again with games against Spring Hill (Ala.) and West Florida. The Statesmen travel to Spring Hill for a 3:30 p.m. game on Sept. 22, and then head down to Pensacola, Fla. for a 12:30 p.m. game on Sept. 24 against the Argonauts.
